Jason (Nami no Aima go) was bred to Reiko (Seihoume go) this morning with their first tie. We will hope for one or two more ties in the coming days if we can. If things go well and our ties result in a pregnancy, timing from first breeding will put this litter born during the last week of November.
We will be looking over applications for homes for this litter. We are uncertain how many puppies will result and there are a number of conformation and breeding homes interested in these puppies so I cannot guarantee there will be pets available at this time.
An ultrasound will be performed in 1 month. Only white puppies expected. NIPPO registered.
Edit: Reiko and Cúchulainn tied on 9/25 after Reiko rejected Jason. Puppies will be tested for parentage.
The first ever Kishu Ken has been officially published to the public database at the OFA.
The Orthopedic Foundation for Animals was established in 1966 to help evaluate health in breeding animals and has since become a mark of responsible breeding among much of the American dog fancy.
Joint issues do not appear to be a large concern in Kishu Ken, and joint issues tend to be the primary reason breeders opt to use the OFA database, but it is nice to have the breed represented among the others who have helped pave the way for healthier puppies.
Nami received the highest ratings on hips and elbows possible in the OFA system.
